Insects on Flowers

I have a secret obsession with taking pictures of insects on flowers. The grosser the insect, the better. So spiders are at the top of the list. But the other day, wandering through my moms garden, I spotted this mosquito eater on her black eyed susans and had to capture it. Something about the contrast of icky and beautiful ;)

UPDATE: I decided to do a bit of research on the insect. I always have known them as "mosquito eaters", but it is actually called "Crane Fly". The adults (as pictured) do not eat mosquitos or bite humans, but are actually nectar eaters. Interesting, cause I always see them flying aimlessly around the room. I assumed they were hunting mosquitos! So they might not be the most attractive insect, but they are harmless :)

  5. I don't know, I think a mosquito-eater has to be beautiful on principle.

  8. Great capture but I shuddered. All the hair is standing up on the back of my neck. Small wonder I don't go camping.

  9. Wonderful capture - I'm not at all fond of those flying, biting things (or even those that crawl) but it makes a wonderful photo, to be sure!

  10. Since I've never seen a mosquito catcher on a flower, I'd say this is an amazing capture!

  11. Great capture. I prefer pretty insects but do find them all fascinating, as long as they are not biting me.

  14. I have a thing for spiders. I love them. So please don't think me rude if I correct you: they are not insects. :-) I don't like most insects.
