Sunset over the Columbia River

The other night, my son was quite fussy right at bedtime. The surefire cure for this is a car ride. He usually falls asleep within a few blocks of our home. I realized that this was happening right before sunset, so I grabbed my camera as we headed out the door. I am glad that I did, because I was able to catch the sun right as it disappeared behind the trees on Government Island, which sits in the middle of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington.

What a great week back. I am so glad I have started blogging again. Thank you to all my new followers here on Blogger and the new people who have "Liked" Hood Photography on Facebook!

  4. Beautiful. I can't help but wonder if poor Kyron Horman is on that island, or one of the others, in the Columbia or Multnomah Rivers.

  9. I like this deep amber hue. It's amazing how dramatically the colors change--and in such a short amount of time. Your son fell asleep, I assume. What a gorgeous backdrop to catch a few winks... it's so serene.

  16. Ha! My parents told me that my older brother was the same way. He wouldn't go to sleep unless they took him out around the block in the car. That's back when gas was $0.35!

  17. That is a beautiful sunset! My oldest son was one who "needed" a car ride before he would fall asleep. I have taken many an evening drive...but never had a camera in those days!

  24. There's just something about the hum of a car motor that lulls our wee ones off to sleep, eh?
