Hole In The Wall Falls

This is the last of the waterfalls we visited on a hike two weekends ago. I like the story behind Hole In The Wall Falls. Back in 1938, the falls was called Warren Falls and fell in a slightly different location, much closer to the historic Columbia River Highway. The water from the falls and creek below would often flood the roadway. So they decided to move the waterfall. They blasted a hole through the cliffside and diverted the water where they needed it to go. Thus Hole In The Wall Falls was born. At the top, the falls do not water does not fall over the side of the cliff, but rather comes out of a tunnel -- the "Hole In The Wall". The multi-tier falls is beautiful, regardless of it's past.

  3. How interesting! I can see a bit of fall coloring too. It must be beautiful up your way now. It's finally cooled down a bit here but it still doesn't feel like autumn...at least not very much.
