Standing on a bridge over Tanner Creek, the water rushing below you, you can't help but look to the left and right sides of the canyon and wonder how it got that way. The boulders in the creek bed are huge, and you can see the crevices in the rock walls above you where they fell from. There was a huge slide here in 1973, and the boulders came crashing down and created this maze for the water to careen through before making its way downstream.

Wahclella Falls, also known as Tanner Creek Falls, is the gorgeous reward for hiking an easy, short trail in the Columbia River Gorge. The two tiered falls was running at full force when I visited two weekends ago. I love the feeling when you approach a waterfall. The air cools and the mist hits you. You know you are about to experience something breathtaking.

Rain and Oregon go hand in hand. Personally, I love it. Sure, it gets old being cooped up around May when all you want to do is go out and enjoy spring, but in December, you are lucky that it is raining and not snowing or icy. The past three months of 2012 have seen a lot of rain (22 inches!!!) As of last week, we were just around 50 1/2 inches for the year, which is only 4th wettest on record, but it has been the warmest December since 1999. So I'm not complaining. I can take rain. Cold is another story.
And with that we close another year. So long 2012. You brought a lot of changes in my life. Hoping this coming year is less eventful, but just as sweet.
Happy New Years everyone!
