My phlox are always one of the last flowers to bloom in the summer. I got the original plant from my mom, the same as so many other plants that grow in my garden. Phlox grow tall and then bloom into these beautiful, bright clusters. And the smell is amazing! Happy Phlox Friday!

Ok, I know, slugs are gross, disgusting, slimy creatures that wreck havoc on gardens. But they do make interesting photography subjects. The different textures, the patterns, the bold orange color ... pretty nasty, but fascinating!

Sandy River at Dodge Park

This past weekend I went out for a two hour walk around Dodge Park along the Sandy River. The rain had  been falling all day and I wanted to enjoy the cool air and capture things damp, as they have not been for a long time this summer. This is looking across the river and the many rocks that break up the flow.

There is a definite change in the weather around here lately. We have been enjoying warm to hot sunny days for about a month and a half, but over the past week, actually got quite a few sprinkles and rain breaks. Yesterday was one such day. I took my camera out on a walk through Dodge Park on the Sandy River. I wanted to use my fisheye lens in a "looking up" photo to show that the leaves are still green and have not started changing, and was keeping my eye open for an ideal tree for my shot. I came across this one, who's trunk was carved on all sides with many names and hearts. Surprisingly, despite the damage, the tree was in great shape!

Water Skipper

Oh wow, this little guy was crazy hard to capture. There were a ton of these water skippers in a pool along the Sandy River, and I spent at least 10 minutes trying to get a macro of just one of them. But they are very quick and very skittish, so it was no easy task. I was determined though, because I love the way their delicate legs bend the water where they touch.
