Years End 2014

The past few years of posting to Hood Photo Blog have been such a great experience. I feel as though I have learned a lot and have grown into the photographer I am today, all while realizing that I have so much more to accomplish in regards to my photography goals.

Each new year I like to close out the previous year by posting my favorites that were taken in the past 12 months. Deciding which photos best represent my growth in the past year is a challenge in itself, but a fun one. I love looking back and remembering the photos I made and the experiences I had in capturing them. The best part is when I see marked improvement throughout the year, which makes me feel like all the efforts are worthwhile.

This year, I will be doing the same thing, with a bit of a twist. I have decided to also enter some of my favorite 2014 photos into the Friends of the Outdoor School Photo of the Year Contest. Please let me know which photo you enjoy the most in the comments, as it will help me in deciding which photos to submit! And as always, thank you everyone for your ongoing support. It makes me proud to have people that like my photography, and encourages me to strive to continue to improve my game.

And my personal favorite from 2014, Lewis River Reflections. I loved the lighting, the way the trees were just starting to change, the perfect glassy reflection, and the barely moving current taken with a slow shutter.

  4. My faves are the clematis, lake salish and the bridge of the gods. I'm thinking of entering the contest too, but I can't decide which photos to use. Unlike last year, I don't have one image that really stands out. Good luck in your choosing and have a happy 2015!

  14. Hi Sarah Betty,
    Wishing you a wonderful 2015.
I've stopped by from Today's Flowers and went on a surprising journey to meet Clematis.
Now that is one very interesting study. I like it.

I hope you don't mind my input... and whichever you choose to enter, I wish you success.

.. I was quite taken by the impact of 'Heavenly Portland Oregon'. Such a dramatic moment you were present to record, and quite a unique one too.

.. I very much like 'Wintery Reflection'. It is such a moody scene. I feel that whatever my mood, the scene would mirror reflect my mood back to me, but add something unexpected.
I think that one is my favourite.

'Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse' I like simply because your own Watermark enhances the scene. The Moon looks beautiful.

And of course Clematis, simply because it is so unusual.

But yes my favourite is 'Wintery Reflection'.

I understand why your favourite is 'Lewis River Reflections'. Your personal connection to the experience of being there tells you many things, just like your words describe, and it is a beautiful scene. So much to see. One can spend time travelling the scene and keep discovering something new.

Good luck with the one you choose.

  18. Living close to the Lewis River, I am enthralled with your view with the perfect reflections, especially since I see sideways a mysterious and scary alien, head to the right side.... But I love the waterfall, it makes me want to go camping there, and the sunsets with the reflections in the water. The beach photo has some lovely lavender colors in the water, it would be soothing to gaze at often.
