Arata Creek

Arata Creek runs through a park in my neighborhood. In between snow storms I walked the trail and took this photo of the chilly water winding through the snowfall.

An Early Sign of Springs Regret

I have a feeling that this little tulip sprout is regretting its decision to poke through the earth early, considering the consistent snow fall we have had over the past 2 days.

Reed Island State Park

Reed Island is located just east of Troutdale on the Oregon side and Vancouver on the Washington side in the middle of the Columbia Gorge. It is part of Washington State, however, if you're driving west on I-84 on the Oregon side, you can stop at a turnoff that has a sign telling all about the origins of the island. That is where I took this photo from.

"Broughton's Expedition"
"Captain George Vancouver in a voyage of exploration to the northwest coast of America ordered by the British Admiralty Office assigned Lieutenant William Robert Broughton, Commander of H.M.S. Chatham, to explore the navigable waters of the Columbia River with boat crews from his ship. This point marks the farthest inland reached by Broughton who camped overnight on an island within sight of this point on October 30, 1792. By appropriate ceremonies he took possession of the observations on the headland which he called Point Vancouver and on the mountain which he named after
Viscount Hood Admiral of the British Fleet."

Elowah Falls and McCord Creek

The short drive and hike to Elowah Falls has won my heart. From my home it only takes about 15 minutes to drive, and it is less than a mile to hike to this gorgeous waterfall. The last two times I have gone, I have arrived and stayed between visitors, meaning I get the entire place to myself. To get to this vantage point slightly downstream from the falls on McCord Creek, it does take some pretty gnarly scrambling down into a deep ravine, but don't you think it is worth the view?

Due East

This is the view looking east from a viewpoint on I-84. To the left you can see Rooster Rock poking up between the trees, and in the upper right, the Vista House at Crown Point. I also like how the tops of the foothills are covered in snow.

Dew Drop on Lichen

I went on a most amazingly gorgeous hike with my best friend over the weekend in the Columbia River Gorge. The sun was out, but it was early, so everything was dripping with beautiful water droplets. My favorite!
