Gilkey Covered Bridge

This is the second of four of the Willamette Valley Covered Bridges I had the pleasure of visiting last weekend. The Gilkey Covered Bridge, built in 1939, runs parallel to an apparently unused train bridge. The train bridge was also a covered bridge until 1960. Now the train bridge mainly serves as a jumping off point for swimmers playing in Thomas Creek below.

Clematis

I took this pretty clematis's photo in my mother-in-laws back yard. The gorgeous climbing vines of the plant were crowded with dozens of flowers.

Sunset over Iris Fields

I planned my departure from the Salem Oregon area this past weekend so that I could hopefully catch the sun going down over the blooming Schreiner's Iris Gardens just outside of Keizer. The Keizer Iris Festival was actually just last week, so my stop for this photo caught the irises in their prime bloom.

Larwood Covered Bridge

Larwood Covered Bridge, Scio Oregon ©www.hoodphotography.com

This past weekend I went on a drive with my husbands aunt around to 4 of the 8 bridges along Linn County's Willamette Valley Covered Bridge tour. It was so awesome! We had a blast and I got to photograph some amazing pieces of Oregon history. This is Larwood Bridge, which was built in 1939 over Crabtree Creek. Roaring River, which empties into Crabtree Creek just below the bridge, is apparently the only river to flow into a creek.

Jordan, Oregon Crimson Clover Field

I traveled south this past weekend to visit family in the small town of Scio. My husbands aunt took me on a great tour of the covered bridges of the area, the first of which I will post about tomorrow. This absolutely stunning crimson clover field appeared as we crested over a hill along our drive in the tiny community of Jordan, Oregon.

Single Seed of a Dandelion

The sunny weather of last week made the dandelions in my side yard all change from yellow bursts of color to clusters of seed fluff. Then late Saturday evening, the rains came back and beat the fluff to smithereens. This particular flower head only housed one remaining seed.
