Late Season Rhododendron

As I mentioned in Tuesdays post, the higher elevation areas on Mt Hood keep the blooming season about a month behind those of the Portland Metro Area. The rhododendron blooms were just in their prime when I was up there two weekends ago.

Bright End of the Day

Where did our sun go? Doesn't mother nature know its summer?!?! I took this sunset photo a few days ago from Chinook Landing. Hopefully it will help tide all of you over that are suffering from this summer rain until the sun returns :)

A Hike to Zig Zag Falls

I went on the short walk to Zig Zag Falls with my son. I am so proud that my two year old does so well on little hikes. He seemed to have a wonderful time, and was very excited when we reached the waterfall treasure at the end.

View from our Clear Lake Campsite

The higher up Mt Hood into the alpine areas you go, the farther back in the season the plants are in the blooming stage. The rhododendrons stopped blooming almost a month ago in the Portland Metro area, however, when we camped at Clear Lake almost two weekends ago, our view towards the lake included these rhodies plants, which were all in their blooming prime.

Condensation on a Shelf Fungus

I hope everyone in the northern hemisphere enjoyed their first weekend of Summer!

This shelf fungus was quite small, so I only barely spotted the photo opportunity as I strolled by on a hike this past weekend. The mist had gathered in large droplets on the bottom and western facing side of the fungus.
