Washington Lily Stamen "Fireworks"

This gorgeous Washington Lily was growing all alone on the side of Still Creek Road last week, and I had to stop to take a photograph of its beautiful details. And, as an added bonus, I think the stamens look an awful lot like fireworks, don't you? Appropriate for today's post!

Happy Independence Day to my American followers, and Happy Birthday to The United States!

Sun Halo

This is one of those camera in hand at the right time type of photos. The weather changed from cool to hot in a matter of one day, and then returned to mild. These are the perfect conditions for sun halos and sun dogs. This sun halo was captured right over my house just as a plane flew into its circular path.

Still Creek

Yesterday was a scorcher here in the Portland Metro area, with temperatures reaching the high 90's! I took this photo of Still Creek in the Mt Hood National Forest a few days before yesterdays mini-heat wave when the weather was still damp, and it almost provides a cooling effect just looking at it!

Shimanek Bridge

A bit of a Throwback Tuesday if you will. I took this photo back at the end of May and never shared it. This crimson painted covered bridge is the Shimanek Bridge in Linn County, with crosses Thomas Creek just outside of Scio, Oregon. Built in 1968, It is the newest and longest of the bridges on the Covered Bridge Tour that I visited then, and was the only one that was not painted white.

Last of the Mushrooms (for a while at least!)

I imagine this will be the last mushroom photo I post for a while. The past week was wet, yet warm, which is perfect for finding mushrooms to photograph. However, I am hoping our wet weather will finally start to take its summer time hiatus. The forecast is looking sunny!
