Lavender Fields Forever

Lavender Fields, Hood River Lavender Farm ©www.hoodphotography.com

One last post from my adventures last weekend to the Hood River Lavender Farm. According to their website, the farm boasts over 75 varieties of lavender. I could not resist the temptation to fill my frame with as many of the varieties as I could in one photo.

Hood River Lavender Farm

Mt Hood from Hood River Lavender Farm ©www.hoodphotography.com

As I mentioned yesterday, we took a little road trip on Sunday and stopped at the Hood River Lavender Farm. The view overlooking the gardens towards Mt Hood is spectacular. Funny, Mt Hood looks so odd to me from this angle. You are leaning the wrong way, my friend!

Eliot Branch of the North Fork Hood River

Eliot Branch of the North Fork Hood River, Oregon ©www.hoodphotography.com

I came across this scene purely by accident. I was driving up the service road beyond Laurence Lake on the north side of Mt Hood when the forest opened up to a huge flood washout. The area of destruction was huge, and quite breathtaking. The waters of the tributary were milky with silt from the glacial runoff that feeds it.

Ante Meridiem

Sunrise over Columbia River, Chinook Landing, Fairview Oregon ©www.hoodphotography.com

Overnight Friday night into Saturday morning I could not sleep. When I noticed the light starting to come in through the curtains in my bedroom and I still had not had any luck catching the elusive ZZZ's, I got up, grabbed my camera and headed out to the Columbia River. I go here often to capture the sunset, but I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination, so capturing the sunrise was a whole new thing for me. And I am happy now that I did!

Bees on Hood River Lavender

Macro bees on lavender ©www.hoodphotography.com

Yesterday we took a little road trip around the Mt. Hood Loop, from my home in Wood Village, east up I-84 to Hood River, then south on Hwy 35 towards Government Camp, and west back to the Gresham area via Hwy 26. There were a few sights I wanted to take in on the abnormally overcast day, one of them being the Hood River Lavender Farm. There you have amazing fields full of lavender, all buzzing with bees. The smell cannot be beat, and neither can the views and hospitality. We chatted with the Lavender Lady a while as my son played with Matchbox cars and blew bubbles. It was a lot of fun! I will post more from our visit later this week!
