Milky Way Above

Milky Way ©www.hoodphotography.com

As I mentioned earlier this week, I went to Central Oregon this past weekend. I had two photo goals. The first was the sunset, which I posted about on Monday. The second was to capture the stars!

I have only recently even tried my hand at taking any night photography. This photo is my first attempt at photographing the Milky Way, and I was pretty excited with the results. Not to shabby for a first try, I think. I can't wait to try again!

Update: Per request, here are the camera settings I used:

lens 18-55
18 mm focal length
f /5.6
25 second exposure
3200 ISO

Twilight over the Cascade Range

sunset over Cascade Range, Central Oregon ©www.hoodphotography.com

I visited family in Central Oregon this past weekend, and had two goals. The first was to take the sun going down over the Cascade mountain range, which can be seen boldly overlooking the flat grasslands. This photo was taken between Prineville and Bend, Oregon. The mountains peaks pictured from left to right are Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, and the Three Sisters.
