Looking North from Neskowin

Fisherman at Sunset off the Oregon Coast, Neskowin

I was able to witness a nice orange sky last Tuesday night as the clouds slowly took over the sky above. This was taken at the beach in Neskowin looking north towards Pacific City. My friend was taking advantage of the last moments of fishing in the waves, and beyond you can see Haystack Rock silhouetted against the foothills.

Mt. Hood's Sahalie Falls

Sahalie Falls, Mt Hood National Forest, Oregon

There are more than one Sahalie Falls in Oregon. The Sahalie Falls on Mt Hood is hidden away right off Hwy 35. You can drive right up to it, or take a hike on the nearby Sahalie/Umbrella Falls Loop Trail. Because we had my son with me, we opted to just drive in, as I have taken the trail before and it is a bit too difficult for my 3 year old. The road is actually a portion of the historic Mt Hood Loop Highway, and a newly restored bridge crosses the East Fork Hood River just below the falls. Here you can stand and get a pretty nice view. I went underneath the bridge and scrambled up some rocks to try to get a better view, but a lot of the falls is obscured this time of year by trees. However, I did notice a lovely rainbow in the falls from the sunlight that was just peaking through the clouds above.

Proposal Rock at Neskowin

Proposal Rock at Neskowin, Oregon

Our family has not visited Neskowin since before our son was born. That is just crazy to me. We used to go a few times a year, but have not been to visit in 4 years now. So this past week we packed up and headed west to the Oregon Coast and spent two nights relaxing and taking in the peaceful beach. Neskowin is a great little gem. It was fairly busy during the day, but when evening hit, things cleared out and only a handful of people could be seen all the way up and down the beach. Just how I like things!
