Getting Close to the Painted Hills

The road driving into John Day Fossil Beds National Monument's Painted Hills Unit is pretty amazing. You pass little sneak peeks of what is to come inside the actual park. This hill was a few miles away from the actual entrance, but I liked that you could get so close to the beauty and how it was surrounded by the pretty sage. Strips of laterite give this hill its distinctive bands of color.
